Summary:
Exelixis is dedicated to building a world-class Structural Biology group to accelerate the discovery and development of novel therapeutics to fight cancer.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated electron microscopist to supervise the installation and operation of a G4 CFEG Titan Krios electron microscope.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) with a demonstrated track record operating and maintaining modern high-end electron microscopes.
A strong background in other aspects of cryoEM such as sample preparation, data collection, processing, and model building is highly desired.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are required as this position will interact extensively across discovery departments and teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Oversee the installation of a G4 CFEG Titan Krios with a SelectrisX and Falcon4iOperate the Titan Krios and associated sample preparation instruments to support high-resolution single-particle sample preparation and data collectionCollaborate with members of the Protein Science team to optimize cryoEM of challenging samplesEnable high resolution cryoEM structures of a diverse set of targets to support structure-based drug discoveryDevelop, evaluate, optimize, and implement new technologies and data collection strategies to keep up to date with scientific advancements in the fieldDevelop documentation and training procedures for all aspects of the cryoEM workflowCoordinate with IT to support computational infrastructure for the electron microscopy facilityHelp train staff to prepare cryoEM samples and operate the electron microscopeMaintain laboratory notebooks in accordance with company policies and practicesComply with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelinesContribute to the writing of technical documents, patents, scientific manuscripts, etc.

Experience:

D.
in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field with a clear track record of operating electron microscopes and solving challenging structures, and a minimum of 2 years of post-PhD experience; or,Equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & ABILITIES:
A minimum of at least 4-years of experience operating cryogenic electron microscopes is requiredExperience with a wide range of sample preparation techniques to overcome issues with challenging samples is highly desiredExperience working with multiple data processing packages and applying new computational techniques to address conformational/compositional sample heterogeneity is highly desiredExperience working with service engineers to maintain functional electron microscopes is highly desiredExperience with EPU for automated data collection is a plusExperience working with medicinal chemists to translate cryoEM structures into actionable data for structure-based drug design of small molecules is a plusExperience with micro-ED sample prep and data acquisition is a plusStrong written, oral and presentation communication skills DISCLAIMERThe preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.

geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets.
The base pay range for this position is $125,000 - $176,500 annually.
The base pay range may take into account the candidate s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location.
The base pay offered will take into account the candidate s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan.
