In this position as an Engineering Technician, you will provide a wide range of engineering functions support of maintenance programs of the Facilities Engineering Department at the Base. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Inspecting and assessing equipment and facilities to manage space allocation/utilization and provide technical support for project planning. Reviewing designs prepared by mechanical, civil and electrical engineers for construction feasibility, operational performance, safety, durability and long-range maintenance costs. Generating, investigating, coordinating and scheduling new design work; developing and interpreting design criteria. Designing and drafting drawings and specifications; preparing costs estimates, economic analyses and value engineering assessments. Drafting correspondences, procurement documents and contract change orders; attending pre-bid conferences and reviewing bids, technical proposals and reports; reviewing submittals, inspecting construction and reviewing contract payments. You qualify for the GS-10 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level performing duties such as:
Providing input on work assignments, priorities and technical questions. Preparing reports and maintaining inventory and preventative maintenance databases utilizing MAXIMO. Developing local procedures for processing jobs with new or revised production requirements. Taking and responding to facilities trouble calls, determining and taking appropriate action to support a positive work environment for building occupants. Planning and administering the quality assurance program used to ensure quality standards are met while performing facilities and maintenance, management and operations services for the facilities. Examples of occupations that could provide specialized experience include:
draftsperson, surveying technician, construction estimator, physical science technician, or mathematical technician. In addition, experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test or design responsibilities such as:
planner estimators who analyzed designs for production purposes; or instrument or modelmakers who perform design or development work on devices fabricated. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
